$2,500 reward offered in Hinds double killings

Three months after a couple was found shot to death in their Hinds County home, Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers has stepped up with a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest
The bodies of Barbara “Bobbi” Doiron Raines, 50, and Robert “Bob” Varnum, 57, were found April 3 in the home they shared at 4812 Mississippi 27, just south of the Warren County line. They are believed to have been killed several days earlier.
Raines’ father, Warren Doiron of Vicksburg, said authorities have no leads in the case, and this morning he issued a plea for information leading to a suspect.
“To bury a child is tough, but to bury a child that has been brutally murdered is unimaginable,” Doiron said. “The family has really suffered. We want peace for Bobbi as much as we want peace for the family.”
Hinds County Sheriff’s officials could not be reached this morning and did not return calls.
Raines and Varnum were found about 1 p.m. by a process server who looked in a window of the home and saw a pair of feet on the floor and called 911 after no one answered the door.
Later, Doiron said he heard about the homicides on the television news. He recognized his daughter’s address and called the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department.
Utica Volunteer Fire Department Chief Sammy White, who also is a deputy coroner, said Raines and Varnum were shot to death in the home. Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart said Raines was shot in the face and Varnum was shot in the neck.
Doiron said today the rewards have been publicized in various media outlets and that he was also posting fliers in Utica, Edwards and Vicksburg.
“We are just pleading for anyone with any information at all to please step forward,” he said. “If you know anything, please help us.”
Raines, a Vicksburg native, had two children and one grandchild.
Varnum, an Iowa native, was a machinist at LeTourneau Technologies. He had three children and one grandchild.
Anyone with information in the case may call the sheriff’s department at 601-974-2900 or Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 888-827-4637.
Crime Stoppers collects information and pays rewards anonymously.
