The Vicksburg Main Street Board of Directors is seeking to renew the special 5.05-mill tax on commercial property in the designated Main Street area for fiscal 2013.
The board passed a resolution Tuesday asking the Board of Mayor and Aldermen to renew the millage, which raises about $42,000 a year for the Main Street program.
“This is something we have to do every year,” board chairman Ronnie Bounds said. “We pass the resolution asking the board to pass its own resolution for the tax and to set a public hearing on the renewal.”
In other action, the board:
• Accepted board member Harry Sharp’s resignation. He said he needed more time for his business. Bounds said Thomas Tarver will complete Sharp’s term.
• Learned that Main Street executive director Kim Hopkins will hold a series of classes in August on marketing through social media.
• Learned the Fall Festival will be Oct. 5-6. Bricks and Spokes will be at the same time.
• Learned AmeriCorps volunteers will work to beautify downtown July 9.
