The Sunday night fire is suspicious, Assistant Fire Chief Henry Williams said, because the house was boarded up and no gas or electricity was connected to the house.

“The front wall was still there, but the rest were gone and most of the roof is burned out,” Williams said.

The house was empty except for some old furniture.

Warren County land records show the house is owned by Jerrick Dotson.

This morning’s fire was reported by neighbors who saw smoke coming from the home owned by John and Pam Bull, who were out of town.

No one was at home, Vicksburg Assistant Fire Chief Craig Danczyk said.

He said smoke was coming out of all four sides of the house and the attic when firefighters arrived.

He did not know the cause of the fire, which heavily damaged the home.

“Right now, we’re just dealing with some cleanup and making sure there aren’t any little embers in the nooks and crannies,” he said.

The Bulls’ neighbor, Tommy Roland, said he called John Bull, who was on a fishing trip to Lake Washington, and told him about the fire.

“You just hate to see this,” Roland said. “He’s such a hard-working man.”
