Hinds snaps skid against Southwest

Hinds Community College used a dominant defensive performance to beat Southwest Community College 38-14 on Thursday night and stop a three-game losing streak.

Hinds (3-3, 1-3 MACJC South) collected seven sacks and held Southwest (0-5, 0-4) to minus-45 rushing yards. Dontrill Hyman had 21⁄2 sacks. Risean Broussard had two sacks and scored on a 15-yard interception return in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore wide receiver Quadarias Mireles had 132 total yards and three touchdowns. He caught seven passes for 46 yards and one TD, and rushed 10 times for 86 yards and two scores.

Hinds quarterback Anthony D’Angelo completed 18 of 26 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns, a 13-yarder to Mireles late in the first quarter and a 44-yard strike to Quantavius Leslie with 16 seconds to go in the third that put the Eagles ahead 24-14.

Leslie finished with eight receptions for 135 yards and a TD.

Turner Easterbrook threw two touchdown passes for Southwest.

Hinds will host Jones County next Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in its final home game of the season.
