Subcontractors for Siemens are installing new lighting fixtures and thermostats in city buildings as part of a $7.6 million project to cut energy costs in city buildings and install digital water and gas meters.

Building superintendent Sammie Rainey said workers have been in city buildings for about two weeks. He said the crews have completed improvements at the Maintenance Department and the Central Fire Station, and were installing lights and thermostats at the Street, Sewer and Right of Way departments Friday. More installations are planned this week.
