A Vicksburg man accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend on the floor of a busy casino Friday was held without bail.

Clarence Jones, 23, 506 Kirkland Road was arrested at 9:57 p.m. Friday and charged with aggravated assault, police Capt. Bobby Stewart said.

Jones is accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend Jordan Melton, 23, 404 Culkin Road at Ameristar Casino, 4146 Washington St., Stewart said.

Jones attacked Melton and stabbed her with a knife multiple times in the back and torso while she was working on the casino floor as a waitress, Stewart said. Casino security, former police officer Anthony Lane and casino patrons were able to restrain Jones until police arrived.

“Thank goodness for the quick response of the casino security and patrons or she could have suffered much more extensive injuries,” Stewart said.

Melton suffered a collapsed lung and was taken to River Region Medical Center where she remained in stable condition Saturday.

The stabbing was caught on the casino’s surveillance cameras, Stewart said.

In April, Jones was arrested for aggravated domestic violence after beating Melton in the face, according to jail records.

“I know that there is a history of domestic violence with them because there is a restraining order in place right now,” Stewart said.

Jones was held without bond pending his initial appearance at 10 a.m. Monday in Vicksburg Municipal Court and it is likely that his bond will be revoked from the April arrest.
