Louisville fends off late Ole Miss rally

After falling behind early, the Rebels mounted a comeback in the ninth inning to cut the lead to one run, but couldn’t complete the rally as Louisville grabbed a 4-3 win.

Preston Overbey scored two of the Rebels’ three runs on the night. Seven Ole Miss players recorded hits.

Sam Smith (1-1) suffered the loss for the Rebels (13-3) in relief.

Alabama 8, USM 3

Josh Rosecrans had two home runs and four RBIs to lead Alabama to a victory over Southern Miss (10-7) at Sewell-Thomas Stadium in Tuscaloosa.

It was first loss in three games against SEC foes for Southern Miss.

Southern Miss stranded a season-high 11 base runners. Mason Robbins went 3-for-5 at the plate with a run scored.

Taylor Nunez (1-2) suffered the loss for the Golden Eagles Ian Gardeck (1-1) picked up the win, both in relief efforts.

SE Louisiana 4, Mississippi State 3

Mississippi State got some solid contributions from several newcomers but it was not enough to prevent a loss to Southeastern Louisiana.

The Bulldogs struck first with two runs in the second inning on Phillip Casey’s first collegiate home run.

Chad Girodo (0-1) took the loss. He was one of six Bulldog pitchers used in the game.
