Johnny Sims Sr.

Services for Johnny Sims Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church of Freetown with the Rev. Joseph Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mr. Sims died Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 87.

He retired from Anderson-Tully Lumber Mill. He was a member of the Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church of Freetown, where he served as choir president and was a member of the Trustee Board. He participated in numerous church choirs throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Sally Sims; six brothers, Robert Sims Jr., Fred Sims, Allen Sims, Eddie Sims, Tommie Lee Sims and Albert Sims; and two sisters, Pinkie Mae Harris and Lela Pampley.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Sims of Vicksburg; three sons, Johnny Sims Jr. and Bobby Earl Sims, both of Vicksburg, and James Lee Sims of Jackson; six daughters, Johnnie Mae Tucker, Ruby Lee Anderson, Joann Walker, Betty Jean Anderson, Annie Bell Sims and Darlene Sims, all of Vicksburg; three sisters, Emma Hebron and Bertha Lee Burks, both of Vicksburg, and Rosa Mae Thomas of Chicago; 25 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
