Robert W. Newman

SAN ANTONIO — Robert W. Newman, 44, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, April 5, 2012, in San Antonio. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi.

Robert was born Feb. 19, 1968, in Vicksburg and had been a lifelong resident of Mississippi prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army at the age of 38. Robert felt called to enlist and serve his country after events surrounding Hurricane Katrina. After graduating from Copiah Academy, Hinds Junior College and ultimately getting his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi, Robert began his career in pharmaceutical sales and was very successful receiving many awards and achievements. Robert served four years in the U.S. Army with distinction as an army preventive medicine specialist. He was injured in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and received commendations and medals for his dedication and bravery. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him as close friends and family will attest.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, John B. Wright Jr. and Virginia Wright and Duane Newman.

Survivors include his wife, Leticia J. Newman; daughter, Lauren Alden Newman of San Antonio; parents, Laura Wright Morgan and stepfather, Craig Morgan, both of San Antonio, and father, Lawrence Newman of Utica; sisters, Tammy Taylor of Anchorage, Alaska, and Kristy McKenzie of Hattiesburg; stepbrothers, Allen Newman and Cody Newman, both of Utica; grandmother, Evelyn Turnage of Utica; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews.

The family prefers contributions in memory of Robert may be made to Operation Homefront San Antonio, Texas, Chapter or Soldiers Angels.
