After 15 tries, Warren Central finally got the best of Madison Central.

Chase Ladd and Cody Waddell combined on a two-hit shutout, and Will Stegall’s two-run single in the third inning brought in the game’s only runs as the Vikings beat Madison Central 2-0 on Saturday.

The victory snapped WC’s 15-game losing streak against Madison Central. WC hadn’t beaten the Jaguars since March 3, 2006, and the streak included playoff sweeps each of the last two years.

Earlier Saturday, Warren Central knocked off another perennial power by beating defending Class 5A champion Ridgeland 5-4.

Hunter Austin doubled and drove in two runs, and Travis Barnett scored twice. WC took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth before Ridgeland rallied to get within a run, at 5-4, heading to the seventh.

Devon Bell went the distance on the mound for the Vikings (6-3). He retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh to earn his first victory in three starts this season.
