A free chili and movie night has been set for First Baptist Church March 31.
“Courageous,” the fourth film produced by Albany, Ga.-based Sherwood Pictures, independent Christian filmmakers, will be shown at 6:30 p.m., following the chili supper, said Kevin Hurt, FBC minister of discipleship and missions.
“We’re just reinforcing the importance of family, especially fathers and their responsibilities,” said Hurt. “Part of the premise of the movie is that one of the fathers makes a resolution to challenge himself and his friends to be the best fathers they can be. The resolution is pretty tough.”
Hurt said the movie follows four fathers, all police officers, in contemporary family situations, including single-parent and those affected by tragedy.
“We’ve been showing a 2-minute preview at our church, and I’m still moved even by watching the trailer,” he added.
Sherwood Pictures also made “Fireproof,” which stars Kirk Cameron, and “Facing the Giants.” Like the latter, “Courageous” features Alex Kendrick, who also directed and co-wrote the movie with his brother, Stephen Kendrick.
Many of the cast and crew are volunteers from Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany. The movie was originally released in theaters in September.
“Courageous” is rated PG-13, Hurt said, and not recommended for children 8 and under.
The chili supper will begin at 5, and the church’s media team has put together old episodes of the Andy Griffith Show, old TV commercials and “Jot the Baptist Dot” cartoons.
All are welcome, he said, and no reservations are required.
