A single in-house application for Warren County fire coordinator will be added to the mix of inquiries into the job once it’s offered publicly.

County supervisors agreed Monday to consider Matthew Garrard’s application for the job of heading up fire response outside Vicksburg. Garrard is an emergency dispatcher and a volunteer in the Fisher Ferry Volunteer Fire Protection District.

A second application was rejected because the applicant wasn’t a county employee, County Administrator John Smith said. The county expects to advertise the job publicly next week.

The salary for a new coordinator had not been determined Monday. The position that coordinates fire response outside Vicksburg city limits among six volunteer districts paid $21,500 before 20-year coordinator Kelly Worthy retired last month.

State law mandates counties fill the position with a certified firefighter from volunteer or municipal forces.
