A Warren County man remained in serious condition this morning at University Medical Center following a beating and robbery in Jackson Sunday afternoon that left him unconscious.

Fred Jackson, 62, 627 Wright Road, suffered severe head injuries in the attack, and his condition had not improved but also had not worsened, his nephew Larry Jackson said today.

Family members have said doctors believe Fred Jackson is responsive because his blood pressure rises when visitors enter his room, Larry Jackson said.

The attack occurred while Fred Jackson was welding at Tri-Miss Services, a salvage yard at 416 Woodrow Wilson Drive, said his daughter, Sheila Hedrick.

A surveillance video shows two men wearing hoodies entering the yard and coming up behind Fred Jackson, Jackson police spokesman Colendula Green said.

His injuries include several skull fractures and severe head trauma, Hedrick said, and he was robbed of about $500 cash, a payroll check and his cell phone.

A hospital spokesman said he remained in serious condition Wednesday, but said this morning that Fred Jackson was no longer listed as a patient.

Green was not available this morning.
