Elsie L. Caldwell

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Elsie L. Caldwell, 60, of Harrisburg, transitioned into eternal life in the peace and love of her home on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012.
She was born in Vicksburg, the third and youngest child of the late Daniel and Lillian V. (Gray) Caldwell; a graduate of Vicksburg Warren County School System, a 1974 graduate of Mississippi Valley State University with her bachelor’s degree, a graduate of George Washington University with her master’s in project management, retired from Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot with 33 years of service with the U.S. Dept. of Navy, a member of Beulah Baptist Church of Steelton, where she served with the Nurses’ Ministry, Women’s Ministry, Noonday Bible Study, and was one of the leaders of the Young Adult Ministry and also completed Discipleship Training.
In the community, Elsie was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Epsilon Sigma Omega Chapter of HBG, a member and Past Worthy Matron of Sheba Chapter No. 32, Order of the Eastern Star, past Grand Worthy Matron of Deborah Grand Chapter, OES, past board member of Junior League of Harrisburg, YWCA of Greater HBG, Friends of the State Museum of PA, Pinnacle Health Women Care and the Mechanicsburg Federal Employees Leadership Association. In her leisure, she enjoyed working at her church, talking with friends, riding trains, playing Bid Whist, being retired and collecting owls.
She was the widow of Kler H. Jones Sr. and, in addition to him and her parents, was preceded into eternal life by one of her brothers, Daniel L. Caldwell and leaves to celebrate her life, her brother, Herbert P. Caldwell (Indiana) of Vicksburg; her sister-in-law, Mary Caldwell of Dallas, Texas; a godson, Blake Wilson Hamilton; her nieces, Cheree Caldwell Williams of Memphis and Nicole Caldwell Bazbaz of Dallas; her nephews, Stephen D. Caldwell of Dallas and Daytron D’mur Caldwell of Oakland, Calif.; her six great-nieces and -nephews; her cousins, including the Caldwell, Gibbs and White families of Vicksburg and a host of other relatives and friends.
A viewing in the chapel of Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton, was held Thursday, Nov. 29, from 5 until 8 p.m. with Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority services at 6 p.m. and Eastern Star Services at 6:30 p.m.
Elsie’s life was celebrated at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, in the sanctuary of her church at 100 Livingston St., Steelton, with viewing from noon until 2 p.m. Further services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bingham Memorial Baptist Church of Vicksburg. Burial will follow at Zollinger’s Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the service.
