The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks approved the dates and bag limits for the 2012-13 waterfowl season at a meeting earlier this week in Jackson.
Duck, merganser and coot seasons will be Nov. 23-25, Nov. 30-Dec. 2, and Dec. 5-Jan. 27. The daily bag limit is six ducks, including no more than four mallards — no more than two of which can be females; three wood ducks; two redheads; four scaup; two pintail; one canvasback; one mottled duck; and one black duck.
The merganser daily bag limit is five, only two of which can be hooded mergansers. Coots will have a 15-bird daily bag limit. The possession limit is twice the daily bag limit for ducks, mergansers, and coots.
Canada, snow, blue, Ross’s, white-fronted goose, and brant seasons will be Nov. 15-Jan. 27. Canada geese will have a three-bird daily bag limit and brant will have a daily bag limit of one bird. The possession limit is twice the daily bag limit for both Canada geese and brant.
Snow, blue and Ross’s geese will have a daily bag limit of 20 birds, while white-fronted geese will have a daily bag limit of two birds. The possession limit for white-fronted geese is four, and there is no possession limit for snow, blue, and Ross’s geese.
In addition to the regular hunting season, there will again be a conservation order for snow, blue and Ross’s geese during the following dates: Oct. 1-Nov. 14; Jan. 28-Feb. 1; and Feb. 4-March 31. Only snow, blue and Ross’s geese may be taken during the light goose conservation order.
The youth waterfowl weekend is scheduled for Feb. 2-3.
