A 76-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint and kidnapped from the parking lot of a Vicksburg casino and hotel, driven to a bank and forced to withdraw more money before he was released uninjured Monday afternoon, Vicksburg police said this morning.

Two suspects “have been identified from surveillance footage” but had not been arrested at late morning, Vicksburg police Capt. Bobby Stewart said.

Stewart said two men, two vehicles and at least one “small pistol” were involved in the crime.

He said the victim, who was alone, was approached by two men in the parking lot between Rainbow Casino and AmeriHost Inn, both in the 1300 block of Warrenton Road, at 2:36 p.m.

The robbers initially stole $190 from the man, who was identified as a Vicksburg resident, then forced him to drive to Walmart SuperCenter, off U.S. 61 South on Iowa Boulevard.

“The man with the gun walked into the store with the man and made him withdraw another $250 from an ATM at Woodforest Bank, bringing the total to $440,” Stewart said.

The bank is inside the store.

Stewart said one of the robbers rode with the victim in his vehicle to Walmart and on to a convenience store on U.S. 61 North, where the man was freed uninjured and the two robbers left in a vehicle identified as a “small silver car.”

Stewart said the other robber, who was not believed to have been armed, drove the silver car to follow the victim and armed man throughout the ordeal, which Stewart believed to have lasted about an hour.

After his release, the victim, who did not have a cellphone, drove himself to Vicksburg police headquarters on Veto Street and reported the kidnapping and robbery.

Aaron Harn, the director of marketing for Rainbow, did not return a call for comment this morning.

Jill Alexander, a spokesman for the Isle of Capri in St. Louis, which is the parent company of Rainbow, said, “Any facts about the investigation would have to be released by law enforcement.”

“After all the facts are known, we will take appropriate steps to ensure our patrons’ safety,” Alexander said.
