Luther Gerald Latham

JACKSON — Luther Gerald Latham, formerly of Vicksburg, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at his residence in Jackson. He was born on July 9, 1937, to Luther Cleveland Latham and Madalyn Hardy Latham.
Mr. Latham graduated from Carr Central High School in Vicksburg and received his Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Jurisprudence degrees from the University of Mississippi Law School. He served in the U.S. National Guard. At Ole Miss, he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
In addition to practicing law in private and for the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office, Mr. Latham worked during his lifetime for the family business, Rose Oil Company, and in recent years as an evangelist, broadcasting weekly on radio station WTWZ AM in Jackson.
Mr. Latham is survived by sons, Luke Latham of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Laurence (Aracili) Latham of Norfolk, Neb.; daughter, Leslie Latham Venit of Smiths Station, Ala.; sister, Madalyn Latham (Tom) Trotter of St. Louis, Mo.; brothers, Cleve (Betty) Latham of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Hays (Billie) Latham of Vicksburg; nephews, Clift Bishop of Berkeley, Calif., Wayne Bishop of Vicksburg and Tom Bishop of Little Rock, Ark.; and a niece, Sharon Branning of Vicksburg.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be at Riles Funeral Home from 1 p.m. Friday until the service.
