California slaying suspect held by VPD

A suspect in a California robbery and killing was held without bail at Vicksburg police headquarters this morning. Michael Porter, 20, of Hayward, Calif., was arrested at his grandmother’s home at 502 Fairground St., police Capt. Bobby Stewart said. A 9mm pistol belonging to Porter was recovered at the home, Stewart said. Porter was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and a parole violation in California, Stewart said. Porter also is accused of a robbery and homicide at a jewelry store in San Ramon, Calif., on May 30, Stewart said. City drug convict picked up again A Vicksburg man accused of selling drugs was held without bail today. Deshawn Stewart, 20, 108 Freedom Lane, was arrested and charged with sale of cocaine when he reported to the Mississippi Department of Corrections probation office at 2709 Clay St., said police Capt. Bobby Stewart who is not related to Deshawn Stewart. The arrest was the result of an undercover investigation into drug activity at Bowmar Avenue and Yeager Street, Bobby Stewart said. On May 24, Deshawn Stewart pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced to five years’ probation. Deshawn Stewart was held without bail this morning pending his initial court appearance. He also was held without bail for the Mississippi Department of Corrections. County woman nabbed for 3rd shoplifting A Warren County woman accused of shoplifting was held without bail today. April Daily, 30, 558 Fonsylvania Road, was arrested and charged with third-offense shoplifting at 8:06 p.m. Thursday, police Capt. Bobby Stewart said. Daily is accused of attempting to steal merchandise valued at $63 from Dollar General, 4000 U.S. 61 South, Stewart said. Daily was held at police headquarters this morning pending her initial court appearance. County man charged with burglary of home A Warren County man accused of burglary was held without bail today. At 8 a.m. today, Michael Jackson Jr., 21, 26 Sammy Young Road, was arrested and charged with residential burglary, police Capt. Bobby Stewart said. Jackson is accused of stealing seven Xbox 360 games valued at $50 each Sept. 5 in the 700 block of U.S. 61 North, Stewart said. Jackson was held at police headquarters this morning awaiting his initial court appearance.
