Fire destroyed a vacant mobile home at 4425C Lee Road Saturday afternoon.
The mobile home was one of a group of three sitting on a lot on the north side of Lee Road, and was near the rear of the property. The fire began about 3:30 p.m., and smoke could be seen from Indiana Avenue at Interstate 20.
“When the first truck arrived, the trailer was already on the ground,” said Lt. Mitch Lange of the Fisher Ferry Volunteer Fire Department. Firefighters from Fisher Ferry and the Culkin Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire. No one was injured. The cause of the fire was undetermined, assistant Culkin fire chief Trey Smith said.
Josie Cranfield, who was staying at a mobile home on the property just south of the fire said she noticed it as she was getting to leave.
“I walked into the living room and saw an orange glow,” she said. “I looked out and the north end of the trailer was on fire.
“I was afraid it was going to spread over there,” she said, pointing to a nearby house.
Cranfield ran to the mobile home of George Lee, who owns the trailers and called 911.
Lee said the trailer had been vacant for two years, and was being used for storage.
