Burglars smashed the windows of four pickups and stole another from area casinos and motels early this morning, Vicksburg police Capt. Bobby Stewart said.

All had windows broken, and Stewart said he believes all five incidents are related.

In the first incident, reported at 3:44 a.m., an iPhone 3G valued at $150 and $300 in cash were reported stolen from a 2009 Ford F-250 parked at the Ameristar Casino, 4146 Washington St.

At 6:20 a.m., a Cabella’s jacket valued at $100, a Glock .40 caliber handgun valued at $700 and two Nikon digital cameras valued at $500 each were reported stolen from a 2011 Ford F-150 parked at DiamondJacks Casino and Hotel, 3990 Washington St.

Twenty minutes later, a wallet with several credit cards was reported stolen from a 2006 Ford F-150 at the Rodeway Inn, 2 Pemberton Place. At 6:58, three Buck knives valued at $60 total and a tool bag with assorted tools valued at $250 were reported stolen from a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 at the Fairfield Inn, 20 Orme Drive, just off Pemberton Square Boulevard.

The owner of the Ram, Lisa Knight, is moving from Virginia to Austin, Texas, and awoke this morning to find the passenger side window of her truck smashed.

The truck bed was packed with expensive household items wrapped in plastic, she said.

“I’m surprised they didn’t tear that up,” she said.

Knight had left her dog, Scout, in the truck for the night, and she suspects that the animal frightened the burglars who ignored bicycles and a crate full of beer in plain view on the boat she was hauling.

“It’s right before Christmas, too,” Knight said. “I hope they get them.”

At 7:20 this morning, a silver GMC Sierra valued at $30,000 was reported stolen from the Courtyard by Marriott off South Frontage Road. At about 9 a.m., the vehicle was found abandoned off Beasley Road in Jackson. Stewart said he believes the vehicular theft is related to the burglaries.
