A former Vicksburg resident’s hand-crafted gifts are bound for the Academy Awards.

Kristi Boell Baker’s Coptic journals will be one of the gifts included in the celebrity swag bags to be offered by GBK Productions in honor of the 84th Academy Awards Feb. 26 at the W Hotel in Hollywood.

Baker, a 1991 graduate of Warren Central High School who lives in Winchester, Va., said she was invited to participate by the Artisian Group, a community of artists who provide samplings of hand-crafted products for celebrities and members of the press at luxury Gift Lounges at major award shows.

“I love to journal, and I started making my own journals when I got tired of regular journals,” Baker said.

Owner of The Nib and Quill on Etsy, Baker said she folds and tears the pages, decorates paint canvases with vintage style scrapbook papers and then stitches the canvases and papers together by hand to give a vintage look.

Baker, who works from her home said, “I started promoting myself last year with Facebook and Twitter and it skyrocketed.”

A Large Heirloom Skeleton Key Journal will be featured at the exhibit, Baker said, and the celebrities will receive a small Coptic bound journal with a print of vintage dominoes on the cover.

The journal is made of 11 signatures and holds eight hand torn pages and is sewn together with brown waxed linen.

“I have placed a small envelope on the inside of the front cover to hide a special message,” said Baker.

She also has given one of her journals to actress Ginnifer Goodwin.
