City man surrenders in beating at cookout

A Vicksburg man accused of beating another man in the head with a piece of lumber surrendered to police Tuesday.

Jesse Lee Watson, 30, 1310 Bowmar Ave., surrendered on a warrant for aggravated assault at 2:53 p.m. Tuesday, police Capt. Bobby Stewart said.

Watson is accused of beating Tommy Hull, 45, 1314 E. Magnolia St., during a fight Sunday at a Memorial Day weekend cookout in the 1300 block of Bowmar Avenue, Stewart said.

Hull was taken to River Region Medical Center and transferred to University Medical Center in Jackson where he remained in good condition this morning, a UMC spokesman said.

Watson posted $50,000 bail and was released.
