Argument over woman leads to stabbing

A Vicksburg man was charged with aggravated assault for stabbing another man during an argument at his home, Vicksburg police Capt. Bobby Stewart said.

He said Robert Peoples, 58, 2411 Letitia St., is accused of cutting Appiph Perkins, 30, 754 Johnson St., on the left side of his face and neck during an argument over a woman at Peoples’ home. Perkins was treated and released from River Region Medical Center, Stewart said.

Stewart said Peoples left his home before officers arrived, and turned himself in Saturday at the police station. He was released from the Warren County Jail Saturday afternoon on a $50,000 bond, jail records showed.

Police on hunt for shooting suspect

Police are looking for a Vicksburg man wanted for shooting another man during a fight early Saturday morning, Vicksburg police Capt. Bobby Stewart said.

He said John Evans, 31, whose address was listed as 1920 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., is accused of shooting Ernest Hunter, 38, 621 N. Poplar St., in the abdomen during a fight at the S&V Flea Market about 1:30 a.m. Hunter was in good condition at River Region Medical Center, hospital spokesman Allen Karel said.

Stewart said the fight occurred when Evans insulted Hunter’s wife, and Hunter confronted Evans about the comment.

Trailer destroyed in Saturday blaze

An early morning fire destroyed a mobile home at 191A Walton Lane Saturday, Warren County fire coordinator Jerry Briggs said.

He said Bovina and Culkin firefighters responding to the 4 a.m. fire arrived to find half of the trailer engulfed in flames. Demitri Jones, who was living in the trailer owned by Savannah Holmes, escaped without injury, he said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
