One team got a complete effort. The other got a game that was completely forgettable.
Pearl manhandled Vicksburg 49-7 in the opener of the Red Carpet Bowl Friday, winning with a balanced offense, a stingy defense and a special teams unit that pinned the Gators deep all night.
The Gators (0-1) were stymied on offense by a combination of a lack of execution and the play of Pearl’s defense, which decimated Vicksburg’s running attack. The Gators tallied 102 rushing yards.
Quarterback Tavares Johnson Jr. completed 7 of 15 passes for 80 yards and one touchdown, a 43-yard pitch-and-catch to De’Andre King after the game was no longer in doubt.
