Meeting Thursday, the Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen:

• Authorized Mayor Pro Tem Michael Mayfield to approve the pre-application for a $538,490 Federal Aviation Administration grant to overlay the taxiway and add runway lights at the Vicksburg Municipal Airport.

• Approved a notice of intent to apply for a Certified Local Government Grant for a survey of buildings in the south of Sky Farm Avenue from Wabash Avenue to the Vicksburg National Military Park.

• Took under advisement bids for traffic equipment and lighting for softball field No. 2 at City Park.

The city received one bid for traffic equipment from Temple Inc. of Decatur, Ala. The bid was itemized per item cost.

Four companies submitted bids to install lighting at the ball field: Miller Co. of Gulfport, $160,120 and $100 to remove two old poles; Robinson Electric Inc. of Cleveland, $143,391 and $1,500 to remove the old poles; Killen Contractors Inc. of Brandon, $175,190 and $1,500 to remove the old poles; Southern Electric Corp., Flowood, $144,115 and $500 to remove the old poles.

The bids will be awarded at the board’s Nov. 21 meeting.

• Ratified Mayor Paul Winfield’s execution of the fiscal 2012 Emergency Medical Services Operating Fund grant.

• Rescinded a vote taken Nov. 3 declaring a 1999 Dodge truck surplus property to be sold at the city’s Nov. 5 auction; announced about $40,000 was made on the auction of surplus city items last weekend.

City purchasing director Tim Smith said the truck was put on the surplus list by mistake. He said the truck was not sold and was still in use.

• Authorized establishing special assessments for cutting and cleaning the following properties: 2627 Washington St., FJK LLC, $138.75; 201 Starlight Drive, Willie J. Griffin Jr., $4,050.22; Washington Street, James LLC, $813.75; 1411 Harrison St., Leigh R. Atkinson, $3,522.56; 1625 Sky Farm Ave., State of Mississippi, $220; 89 Williams St., David L. Thomas Sr. and Annie McGowan, $724.76.

• Approved a request from the Vicksburg Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority to use the Jackson Street Community Center for a lock out from 6 p.m. today until 8 a.m. Saturday, and to use a television and VCR to show educational films during the event.

• Approved the claims docket.
