Emma Louise McKinley Miller

EDWARDS — Emma Louise McKinley Miller died Friday, June 3, 2011, at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital. She was 58.

Born in Edwards, Mrs. Miller was a graduate of Edwards Attendance Center, Hinds A.H.S., Utica Junior College and Jackson State University. She retired in 2001 as the district accounts payable manager from Hinds Community College, where she had also served as director of the Baptist Student Union and on the HCC Credit Union Board of Directors.

She was former president and secretary of the Hinds County School Board and had served as PTA president at Mixon and Edwards elementary schools. She was a member of the Hinds County Association of Educational Office Professionals.

Mrs. Miller had served as youth director, adult choir member and Sunday school and Bible class teacher at Ratliff Chapel M.B. Church in Edwards. She was a member of Higher Praise Church in Vicksburg and of The Inspirational Outreach Gospel Chorale.

She was preceded in death by her father, Estelle Green; a sister, Ethel Green; and grandsons, Emanuel and Caden Bishop.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 41 years, Joseph C. “Ernest” Miller; her children, Ernie Miller of Edwards, Emily Bishop of Pearl and Ernessa Miller of Delta, La.; her mother, Lula M. Brize of Savoy, Ill.; two brothers, Oliver Brize of Savoy and David Brize of Edwards; three sisters, Wynemia Lindsey and Constance Warren, both of Champaign, Ill., and Estella Huma of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and friends and other relatives, including, Emma B. Miller of Redwood and Emma Flagg of Edwards.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bolton/Edwards Attendance Center. Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeover Funeral Home in Jackson and Saturday at the attendance center from 10 a.m. until the service.
