A suspect has been identified in the armed robbery of a loan store Saturday, and police are asking for help in locating the man.

Tarontate Crockett, 34, who has lived in several locations including his girlfriend’s residence at 1205 China St., Apt. C-3, was identified through surveillance video of the parking lot at Walmart, 2150 Iowa Blvd., said Vicksburg police Chief Walter Armstrong this morning.

Crockett is suspected of being the masked man who robbed the Pay Day Loan Store, 2310 Iowa Ave., Saturday afternoon, making off with an undetermined amount of money, Armstrong said.

The store is in the shopping center anchored by Walmart.

Armstrong said video showed the man getting into a car after robbing the store. The car was traced to Crockett’s girlfriend, who is an employee of the loan store and was working at the time Crockett committed the robbery, said Armstrong.

Police questioned the woman Tuesday night, he said.

“Although she did not recognize him, she said it sounded like someone trying to disguise their voice,” the chief said. “She is cooperating with the investigation, which is ongoing, and at this time we have not charged her.”

Police served a search warrant for the China Street apartment and recovered clothing and the weapon believed used, which appears to be “some kind of BB gun,” Armstrong said.

The woman, whom Armstrong would not identify, told police she has seen and spoken with Crockett since the robbery. Police were not certain if he has access to a vehicle and is still in the area, the chief said.

Anyone with information about Crockett is urged to call police at 601-636-5122.
