Wrestling event headed to Vicksburg

Published 11:59 pm Friday, May 20, 2011

In the 1960s and ’70s, Vicksburg was a hotbed for professional wrestling. Local stars such as Jack Curtis mixed it up with legends like the Junkyard Dog.

Frederick Seawright believes the glory days can be revived.

Seawright — who has been involved in pro wrestling for more than three decades and is better known as Brickhouse Brown — will bring his new Major League Wrestling promotion to Vicksburg for the first time on Thursday night.

The event at the American Legion on Monroe Street is the beginning of what Seawright plans to be a series of monthly shows in the city. Tickets are $10 each, and Seawright said he plans to donate $1 from each ticket sold to local charities for flood relief.
