John Martin Janotta Sr. died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. He was 59.

Born in Jackson, Mr. Janotta was the son of the late Ralph Alfred Janotta and Flora Ford Janotta. He served in the Army as a sergeant, receiving the National Defense Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.

A resident of Vicksburg since 1979, Mr. Janotta retired in 2003 from the Vicksburg Police Department with the rank of lieutenant. He was of the Catholic faith.

He is survived by two sons, John M. Janotta Jr. and Justin M. Janotta, both of Vicksburg; a sister, Janet Merritt of Slidell, La.; three brothers, Frank Janotta of Pearl, Steven Janotta of Flora and Glen Janotta of Brookhaven; three grandchildren; and other relatives.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday at Riles Funeral Home.
