Seniors get connected

The Teen HELP Interact Group recently sponsored its second “Granny Go Surfing” at the Warren County-Vicksburg Library. The teens had 15 individuals seeking assistance with features of their cells phones or needing assistance with learning how to use the Internet. It was remarkable to see the interaction between the two age groups as they laughed and shared stories about technology.
I would like to extend a very special thank you to Deb Mitchell and the staff of the library. They reserved four computers for the project and for most of the two hours all four of the computers were occupied.
Julie Marcy, one of the sponsors of Teen HELP and also a member of the Vicksburg Rotary Club, shard her knowledge and expertise with the adults, while Zoe Kinsella and Haley DeRossette spent all of their time working with nine of the adults who wanted more knowledge about their cell phones. The students will earn community service hours for their participation, but I am sure that the adults benefitted equally as they were able to leave the library knowing how to use their cameras, send text messages, add names to their addresses and set up their voicemails.
The project will be repeated again on April 10 at the library. This time it has been suggested that we call it “Granny and Gramp … Let’s Go Surfing.”

Santa felt welcome
The management and marketing staff and all employees at Outlets at Vicksburg would like to thank the participants and everyone who helped make our Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony a tremendous success. It was truly a great event, we believe our best ever.
Miss Mississippi Anna Tadlock made our event unforgettable by emceeing and entertaining our visitors. Thanks to our own Miss Vicksburg Delisha Wiggins, Miss Lindsey Garrard and Miss Vera Ann Fedell for entertaining the crowd with their musical talents and the Vicksburg Dance Company for its outstanding performance.
The entertainment all led the Santa’s arrival. Santa rode in on an antique fire truck just in time to light the 45-foot Christmas tree. The children in the crowd enjoyed their chance to chat with Santa!
A special thanks to Mickey Fedell, Chesley Lambiotte, Sally Sheffield, Sheffield Rentals, Mark Jourdan and Casey Custer for all their help in making this event one to remember!

Charter bus a plus
We would like to offer our sincere thanks and appreciation to the Vicksburg Warren School District administration for providing the members of the Big Blue Band with a charter bus for our travel to the Warren Central playoff game in Olive Branch.
The booser club requested assistance with securing a tour bus for the safety and comfort of students attending the game and the administrators were kind enough to offer their support.
For the seniors who made this trip, it was their last opportunity to perform in support of the Vikings and having a charter bud made it a memorable event. It is wonderful to have this kind of support from our district and to see that they always put the students first. Again, we thank them for their kind effort on behalf of the Big Blue Band.
