Jurors needed just 15 minutes Thursday to convict a Vicksburg man of aggravated assault.

Shannon M. Doine, 32, 2300 Glass Road, Lot 9, was accused of using a box cutter to cause a throat injury to a man Aug. 30 while both were attending the same cookout party near Doine’s residence. His trial got under way in Warren County Circuit Court Wednesday.

Doine testified in his own defense Thursday that the injury to Teddy Launius, 29, was a “terrible accident.”

Launius testified Wednesday that he and Doine had argued after Doine made vulgar remarks to Launius’ fianceé. When Launius suggested the men “take it outside,” and not fight in someone else’s home, Doine swung at him. Moments later Launius realized his throat had been sliced.

Prosecuting attorney Dewey Arthur showed the jury a photo of Laurius after the attack, showing what deputies called “horrific” wounds.

Doine was arrested that evening, and has remained in Warren County Jail since.

Presiding Circuit Judge Isadore Patrick ordered a pre-sentencing report on Doine after the jury announced its verdict. Doine was returned to the jail to await sentencing June 26.

He can receive up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
