Patience is a virtue, according to an old saying.

St. Aloysius took advantage of every opportunity with a patient approach at the plate in a 14-1, four-inning romp over visiting Raymond on Tuesday..

St. Aloysius (4-0) batted around in the bottom of the first and hung eight on the board to land the knockout blow before the fans even got comfortable. More amazing was that the Lady Flashes barely got anything out of the infield. Mallory McGuffie doubled down the line to drive in two and that was the only shot that reached the outfield. Sarah Franco scored twice and she had a rare two-hit performance at leadoff in the frame. In the second, the Lady Flashes picked up right where they left off, as three walks juiced the bases for Taylor Ann Hasty, who singled in a pair of runs as St. Al put two more on the board.

St. Al coach Gene Rogillio was able to clear his bench and his youngsters kept up the pressure, adding four runs on their own in the final two frames. Kelsey Davidson had an RBI double, Julie Mabry had an RBI single and Sara Townsend drove in two runs with another single.

“We tried to get everyone in the ballgame somewhere,” Rogillio said. “If you’ve got a pitcher who is only throwing 30 mph, you’ve got to sit there and wait.”
