MACON, Ga. — George Clinton Schlottman died Monday, June 8, 2009, in Macon, Ga. Visitation will be Thursday, June 11, 2009, from 5 until 7 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Hospice, 2484 Ingleside Ave., Suite B, Macon, GA 31204 or Avon Crusade Against Breast Cancer, 1345 Avenue of the Americas, New York, N.Y. 10105. The family requests that any donations of food be made to Loaves and Fishes.
Dr. Schlottman attended LSU and graduated from Tulane Medical School, then completed his internship and residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. He recently attended his 50th class reunion. Dr. Schlottman was a partner at Urological Professional Association from 1964 to 1994. He was an Army surgeon in Saigon during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Bronze Star for his participation in the first kidney transplant in Southeast Asia. He was a member of the Idle Hour Golf & Country Club and the U.S. Closed Golf Association. He was beloved by his patients and co-workers, many of whom have shared memorable stories about what a caring and generous person he was throughout his life. He was lovingly known to family and friends as Poppy.
Dr. Schlottman was preceded in death by his parents, Elliott Eugene Schlottman and Kathleen McCary Schlottman; son, Rusty Schlottman; and brother, Elliott Eugene Schlottman Jr.
Survivors include his wife Claudia Harmon Schlottman of Macon; daughter, Kristy Burkhalter (John) of Macon; son, Robert Schlottman of Macon; daughter, Gretchen Schlottman (Chad Detwiller) of Newport, R.I.; stepson, Parrish Gray of Hialeah, Fla.; six grandchildren, Shannon Phillips (Joey) of Columbus, Ga., Clint Burkhalter of Macon, Sarah Barnard (Scott) of Gray, Lauren Schlottman of Savannah, Emily Schlottman of Macon, and Addie Duck of Wilmington Island, Ga.; four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Noah, Abby and Drew, all of Columbus.
