PORT GIBSON — Nathan Noble Jr. died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at his home in Port Gibson. He was 88.
Mr. Noble was born in Claiborne County to Elnora Williams and Nathan Noble Sr. He was a steel-mill worker and a member of Watson Chapel A.M.E. Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Exanna Ward Noble and Hester Shorter Noble; a daughter, Clara Noble; a son, David Noble; three brothers, Phenex Noble, Allen Noble and David Noble; three sisters, Katherine Downs, Sarah Garland and Lucy Noble Dotson; and two grandchildren, Antwan Lewis and Tanasha Lewis.
Survivors include three sons, Nathaniel Noble of Port Gibson, Darrell Noble of Vicksburg and George Noble of Honolulu; three daughters, Virginia Turnipseed of Waukegan, Ill., Patricia Taylor of Gary, Ind., and Debra Lowe of Temple, Texas; three brothers, Willis Noble, Wade Noble and the Rev. Willis Noble Reed, all of Buffalo, N.Y.; three sisters, Betty Cadney and Rachel Washington, both of Buffalo, and Viola Jenkins of Port Gibson; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Carnell Jones of Port Gibson.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Springhill Baptist Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. James Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Rollins Funeral Home in Port Gibson.
