It was said by steambot historians that the architectural style of the J.M. White had to be seen, that is was not copied from any books. The interior featured stained glass, statues, walnut burl, gold and ebony relief, mirrors almost 8 feet tall and two grand pianos. It was built in 1878 in Indiana and burned eight years later, on Dec. 13, 1886, at Blue Store Landing near Point Coupe, La. It was in the Vicksburg trade and was for many years the greatest cotton queen of the Mississippi, The photo, showing the silver water cooler, is from the Old Court House Museum collection.
