Hurley cruises to Clear Creek title|Golf

Mike Hurley used a stellar first-round 67 on Saturday to open a huge lead at the Clear Creek Club championship, then cruised home to a six-shot victory on Sunday.Hurley’s first round gave him a seven-shot lead over Todd Brown. Hurley shot a 77 in the second round while Brown struggled to an 85 and finished fifth.

Don LaGrone, who shot a 75 in both rounds, finished second. Dave Kuchman and Rocky Shiers tied for third with a two-day total of 154.In the senior tournament, Bob Walters shot rounds of 78 and 79 to earn a four-shot victory over Pete Johnson.

Other flight winners were Don Biedenharn in the senior first flight; Tim Ros in the first flight; and Bob Carroll and Keith Ehrhardt tied for first in the second flight.Hurley, Brown, LaGrone, Shiers, Phillip Young, Dave Kuchman, Rodney Lindsey and Jeff Cowan all qualified for the Warren County Cup. That tournament, which pits the top finishers from the Clear Creek and Vicksburg Country Club championships against each other, will be held Sept. 12 and 13 at Clear Creek Golf Course.
