Jefferson Davis Academy was one of five consolidated rural schools that opened in Warren County in 1916, and they were the first in America to offer vocational classes. The schools — Jeff Davis, Jett, Bovina, Oak Ridge and Culkin — were designed by an architect named Cramer who was from Illinois bur was married to Day Allen of Campbells’ Swamp. Each school had four large classrooms, a central hall, cloak rooms and an auditorium. Vocational classes were held in another building. Jeff Davis stood at the intersection of Jeff Davis and Price Hill roads. The photo is from the Old Court House Museum collection.
