Authorities blanketed highways in the area this morning after Regions Bank, 4140 E. Clay St., was robbed at about 9:22.

“The robber did not display a weapon but he did pass a demand note and he got away with an undetermined amount of money,” said Sgt. Sandra Williams of the Vicksburg Police Department.

A few customers and employees were inside the bank when the robbery occurred, Williams said, but no one was injured. The bank is near Interstate 20 ramps to the east and west and close to the Beechwood intersection where U.S. 80, U.S. 61 and Mississippi 27 meet.

The robber was described only as black, about 5-foot-2 and 150 pounds and wearing a black ball cap with red and white trim, a black shirt, black pants and a jacket of unknown description.

Williams said witnesses reported the robber left on foot, headed west.

Initial reports by police and Warren County deputies indicated law enforcement officials were also blocks of the bank that is across Clay from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers District offices.

An apartment complex and a trailer park are west of the bank off Clay, and other neighborhoods are east of the nearby Beechwood intersection.

The bank robbery was the second in Vicksburg this year.

No arrest has been made in the first, at Trustmark’s main Vicksburg office on Washington and Clay streets, on Feb. 13.

Regions operates three offices in Vicksburg.
