Mary E. Garrett

Mary E. Garrett died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at River Region Medical Center. She was 90.

Mrs. Garrett was a native of Kemper County and had made Vicksburg her home since 1944. She was graduate of Mississippi State College for Women, and she taught in public schools for six years.

Mrs. Garrett retired from Waterways Experiment Station as a librarian in 1980. As a member of Highland Baptist Church, she was a Sunday school teacher and mission leader and was involved in youth activities. She was also a member of the Bethany Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William James and Beulah B. Newell McDade; husband, Edgar J. Garrett; three sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include her sister, Eugenia M. Therrell of Aberdeen, as well as nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Greg Hazzlerigg officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the service.

Mrs. Garrett’s nephews will serve as pallbearers.
