A Vicksburg man brought to River Region Medical Center, “bleeding from several injuries,” Friday evening died in the emergency room, Sheriff Martin Pace said.
The man, whose identity was not released pending notification of his immediate family members, was brought to the hospital by an acquaintance, Pace said.
Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey said the man appeared to have died from a loss of blood from wounds in his upper body. He died at 7 p.m.
Pace confirmed that the victim was a 50-year-old white man whose residence was in the vicinity of the 5000 block of Warriors Trail, where investigators think he might have been injured. He was brought to the hospital around 6:15 p.m.
An autopsy will be performed at the state crime lab today, Huskey said.
“We do not know the cause of his injuries, and we will not know until we get the autopsy report,” Pace said. “Right now, it’s a death investigation.”
Pace and investigators questioned the man who brought the victim to the hospital. The victim carried no identification, and detectives spent several hours trying to verify it.
More information was expected later today.
