7 indicted in Issaquena County

Six men were formally charged after being indicted Monday by the Issaquena County grand jury.
A seventh, indicted a year ago, also was arraigned.
Among those facing trial are Robert Hals, 42, no street address available, Anguilla, and Alton Lee, 49, 271 Fleetwood Road, Rolling Fork, who were charged with grand larceny from the theft of corn valued at $10,000 from a grain silo between March 8 and April 8.
Hals has been in the Issaquena County Jail since his arrest. Lee has been in the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Rankin County.
The others, inmates at the Issaquena County Correctional Facility in Mayersville, were charged with possession of contraband within a correctional facility. They are:
• Ronald Hodges, 49, date of infraction May 8.
• Moses Terell Monroe, 24, April 4.
• Jimmy Don Morgan, 34, Jan. 20.
• Farris Wade, 45, Jan. 14.
• Willie J. Cain, 44, Feb. 27, 2008. Cain was indicted last June but not arraigned until Monday.
The Issaquena County grand jurors were selected Monday and completed their service the same day. They heard evidence against those arrested and decided in each case whether there was enough evidence for a criminal trial. The jurors issued indictments on all cases presented to them.
In addition, jurors toured the courthouse and prepared a formal report. Their findings were that more storage space is needed, water-damaged acoustical tiles need to be replaced and more funding is needed for law enforcement pay and training and for equipment.
This was the second of two grand jury sessions in Issaquena County for 2009. The next grand jury is expected to convene in January.
Ninth Circuit Court Judge M. James Chaney presided.
