Gerald Yocum

Gerald “Jerry” Yocum died Friday, May 29, 2009 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. He was 73.
Mr. Yocum was a native of Opps, Pa., who moved to Vicksburg in 1967. He was a veteran of the Army. He was employed with Unisys Corp. for 33 years and then worked for Alfa Insurance for 15 years. Mr. Yocum was a member of Oakland Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, treasurer and Sunday school teacher. He also served as a Boy Scout leader for Troop 105 for more than 20 years.
Mr. Yocum is survived by his wife, Lynda Kaye Yocum of Vicksburg; three sons, Forrest Yocum of Huntsville, Ala., Rex Yocum of Ruston, La., and Dale Yocum of Vicksburg; one daughter, Linda Yates of Monroe; three step-daughters, Alisha Ford of Terra Haute, Ind., Amy Carley of Columbia and April Taylor of Marion, Ark.; and 15 grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oakland Baptist Church with the Rev. DeWitt Bain officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park with Glenwood Funeral Home in charge. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Paul Eagles, Glenn Conrad, Michael Tate, Dewayne Trest, Brian Green, Robert Sibley, John Busby and David Barfield.
Honorary pallbearers will be Collins Rhinehart, T.D. Easterling, Lamar Roberts, Louis Thorton, Jim Ballard, Hugh Green, Carl Upton and Albert Smith.
