Dunaways mark 60th

Robert W. “Bob” and Hallie Walker Dunaway celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Thursday. They were married Feb. 12, 1949, in a small ceremony at her family’s home. 

Mr. Dunaway is a Navy veteran and a graduate of Mississippi College and the University of Southern Mississippi. He also worked on his doctorate at the University of Indiana. He coached in Port Gibson, Florence, Durant, Charleston and Rolling Fork, before retiring as a head coach and athletic director for the Vicksburg schools. He was former president of the Mississippi High School Coaches Association and served as head coach of the North All-Stars.

Mr. Dunaway later taught coaching at USM and served as principal at Central Baptist School in Hattiesburg. He also was employed in public relations in Missouri for 10 years before moving to Lynchburg, Va., to work for Jerry Falwell’s Ministry.

Mrs. Dunaway attended Mississippi College for Women and worked in various school superintendents’ offices. With her husband, she worked for Jerry Falwell’s Ministry in Virginia before both retired to Kansas.
