Maier named chief of ITL research arm

Dr. Robert Maier has been named chief of the Scientific Computing Research Center at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s Information Technology Laboratory.

He will be one of six directors of the Department of Defense’s Supercomputing Resource Center.

Maier, who joined ERDC in 2003 in the Major Shared Resource Center, began his career in 1981 in computational science as an applications analyst with the Control Data Corporation.

He joined the Army High Performance Computing Research Center in 1991 as a postdoctoral fellow and staff scientist.

Maier has a doctorate in numerical analysis from the University of Minnesota.
