A video released Monday by Dillard’s at Pemberton Square shows a man and a woman stuffing expensive shirts and shorts in a bag and casually walking out of the store.

Surveillance cameras captured the theft at 6:42 p.m. Thursday, showing 12 Polo shirts and 18 pairs of shorts being taken, valued at nearly $3,000.

No store personnel are in the video and apparently none was nearby during the theft.

Dillard’s store manager Robert Putnam said there is normally an officer who works for Dillard’s, but there was not an officer on duty at the time.

A 911 call was made to police while the shoplifting was happening, Putnam said, but the couple walked out of the store and a vehicle description or mode of transportation were not made public.

Investigator Jeff Merritt of the Vicksburg Police Department described the couple as a black woman, about 5-feet-8-inches tall and 180 pounds wearing a pink shirt with blue jeans, and a black man, about 6 feet tall and about 230 pounds wearing a brown T-shirt and blue jeans. Merritt said both appeared to be in their late 40s.
