NEWELLTON — Mary Evelyn Cannon died Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at Madison Parish Hospital. She was 59.
Mrs. Cannon was born in Meridian and had lived in Tensas Parish for 40 years. A registered nurse since 1974, she was a public health nurse supervisor for Franklin Parish for 15 years and later worked in the Tensas Parish Health Unit. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Newellton, where she was a member of the choir and praise and worship team.
Survivors include her husband, William A. Cannon of Newellton; a son, William C. Cannon of Winnsboro; her mother, Evelyn Ruth Wade of Newellton; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Newellton with the Rev. Dennis Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Legion Cemetery in Newellton under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the church Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the service .
Pallbearers will be Virgil Holder, George Cooper, Randy McDonald, Mac McDonald, Craig Keys and Lawrence Adams.
Honorary pallbearer will be Michael Hankins.
