The case of a Rolling Fork man accused of kidnapping and rape is expected to be among those considered by the Sharkey County Grand Jury Monday.

Jimmie Hall, 30, address unavailable, was arrested in June and initially indicted for attempted murder by the federal government, said District Attorney Ricky Smith. Hall’s case was later turned over to Sharkey County authorities, and he was charged with kidnapping, rape and aggravated assault.

The grand jury will also consider six other cases for possible indictment. Circuit Judge Frank Vollor will preside.

Sharkey County grand juries are chosen three times a year, this year convening in January, April and August. Law enforcement officers present cases, and jurors decide if there is enough evidence for a criminal trial. If so, indictments are issued and defendants, most of whom have been free on bond, appear at a formal arraignment to hear the charges they face. Most then remain free on bond pending resolution of the indictments through a trial or plea bargains.

In Sharkey County Circuit Court the week ending Friday:

• Nino Anderson, 41, 213 E. Second St., Anguilla, pleaded guilty to uttering a forgery and was sentenced by Judge Isadore Patrick to the 9th Circuit Drug Court program for a period not to exceed five years, plus $2,722.50 in fines and restitution. Anderson was arrested Oct. 20.

• Aveon Davis, 30, 121 Day St., Rolling Fork, pleaded guilty to fleeing or eluding a law enforcement officer and was sentenced by Patrick to three years of probation and fines of $1,322.50. Davis was arrested April 11.
