JACKSON – After leading the Majors to four consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championships and two NCAA Division III playoff appearances, head football coach Mike DuBose has announced his resignation from Millsaps College to take an assistant position as the defensive line coach at the University of Memphis.

“Coach DuBose brought outstanding organization to our program and built character in the scholar-athletes under his charge,” athletic director Tim Wise said. “Although we are grateful for the winning records and conference titles, we are equally appreciative of the lessons of discipline and integrity that he modeled for our scholar athletes. Mike always supported our athletes in their education and was able to create championship teams while instilling the important virtues that are hallmarks of the Millsaps education.”

Millsaps hired DuBose in 2005 to fill the vacancy at the defensive coordinator position alongside head coach David Saunders, whom he succeeded a year later as the Majors’ 19th head coach in the program’s 85-year history.

The Majors went from 2-7 to 7-4 in his first season in 2006, won their first outright league title in 15 years and made their first appearance in the NCAA Division III playoffs in 31 years. The Majors went on to post consecutive winning seasons at 8-2 in 2007, a school-record 11-1 finish and No. 3 ranking in 2008 and 7-3 mark last season.
