James Edgar Cain Sr.

James Edgar Cain Sr. died at his home on Saturday, March 21, 2009. He was 87 years of age.

Born on Sept. 24, 1921, to Cammie E. and Lula Jane Seymore Cain in Jefferson County, Miss., he was the youngest of seven children. He was married to Mary Ottilie Slayton for over 66 yeas. They were married on Oct. 17, 1942, in Claiborne County.

Mr. Cain worked at Port Gibson Oil Mill as a superintendent, retiring in 1985, and he owned and operated a welding shop. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II; a member of Washington Lodge No. 3 Order of Masons for more than 66 years; a member of the Port Gibson Chapter No. 337 Order of the Eastern Star; a member of Shiloh Baptist Church; and he loved hunting and fishing.

Mr. Cain was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, D. Cain, Cammie Eugene Cain and Woodrow Wilson Cain, all of Lorman; and three sisters, Lula C. Emmanuel of Fayette, Rosie C. Davis of Jena, La., and Eva C. May of Winnsboro, La.

Survivors include his wife, Ottilie Cain; one son, James Edgar Cain Jr. and his wife, Grape, and their children Vivian C. Rushing, her husband, Victor, and sons Colby and Taylor, and Jamie Cain; one daughter, Marjorie C. Bufkin and her husband, Billy Ray, and their children Tony Bufkin, his wife, Lori, and children Brett and Cassie, Richard Bufkin, his wife, Angie, and children Amanda, Richie and Morgan, Mickey Bufkin, his wife, Mary, and daughters Macey and Marley, and Patricia B. Rollison and daughter Finley; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Jan Slayton; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel in Port Gibson. The Rev. Toby Jenkins will officiate. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery in Port Gibson. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight, March 23.

Pallbearers are his grandsons, Tony Bufkin, Richard Bufkin, Mickey Bufkin, Jamie Cain and Victor Rushing and great-grandson, Brett Bufkin.

Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, Roy Lively, James Cain, Percy Emanuel and John Charles Wallace; Jerry Bufkin, Burnice Cleveland; Thomas Russum; Malcolm Montgomery; Dr. P.W. Pierce III; Dr. Murray Whitaker; members of the Masons; and Sunnyside Hunting Club members.
