Vicksburg man faces charges for drugs

A Vicksburg man was released from the Warren County Jail Sunday after being held on drug-related charges.

Derrick L. Dixon, 31, 100 Village Drive, was arrested at 7:35 p.m. Friday at his girlfriend’s home, 1900 Baldwin Ferry Road Apt. 10A, after Vicksburg police received calls of drug activity at the Eastview Apartments, Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Dixon was arrested and charged with sale of marijuana, and after the home was searched, he also was charged with possession of cocaine, Stewart said. He said police found 7 grams of cocaine in the apartment.

Dixon’s girlfriend was not charged, and he was released on a $10,000 bond.

Brandon man held in 2007 theft here

A Brandon man was in the Issaquena County Jail this morning accused of possessing stolen property reported missing in 2007.

Tom Laney, 37, 709 Brown St., was arrested at 10 p.m. Saturday after a traffic stop by Rankin County deputies in Rankin County, Lt. Bobby Stewart of the Vicksburg police said.

After an identity check, he was found to be wanted in Vicksburg for pawning a 12-inch saw valued at $720 at a Jackson pawn shop, Stewart said.

The saw was reported stolen in June 2007 from the Warren County Bridge Commission, Stewart said.

He was held without bond.

City man charged with firing shots

A Vicksburg man was in the Issaquena County jail this morning accused of firing shots at another man.

Johnathan Woodson, 29, 2625 Alma St., was arrested at Clay and Adams streets at 2:09 a.m. Sunday after a report of shots fired at Cherry and Jackson streets 4 minutes earlier, Lt. Bobby Stewart of the Vicksburg police said.

Woodson is accused of firing one shot from a handgun at Walter Parker Jr., 25, 280 Ironwood Drive, who was a passenger in a 2004 Ford Ranger, Stewart said.

Woodson was a passenger in a 1994 Lincoln.

The shooting stemmed from an earlier fight between the two involving a female at LD’s restaurant, 1111 Mulberry St., Stewart said.

Neither Parker nor the Ford Ranger was struck, and no injuries were reported, Stewart said.

Woodson was charged with attempted aggravated assault and held without bond.

Several charges land man in jail

A Vicksburg man was in the Issaquena County Jail accused of possession of a weapon by a felon.

Michael Blackmore Gilmore, 36, 404 Locust St. Apt. 402, was arrested at 1:51 a.m. Saturday after a traffic stop at Clay and Locust streets, Lt. Bobby Stewart of the Vicksburg police said.

After an identity check, Gilmore was charged with possession of a weapon by a felon, probation violation and a misdemeanor charge of contempt of court, Stewart said.

He was held without bond.

City, county report 12 auto burglaries

Twelve auto burglaries were reported in the city and county during the weekend, police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

About $5 in cash was reported stolen from a 1999 Dodge pickup in the 100 block of Meadowbrook Drive at 7:32 a.m. Friday.

About two hours later, $28 and a Taurus 357 Magnum handgun valued at $400 were reported stolen from a 2007 Dodge pickup in the 100 block of Belva Drive.

A Larson .380-caliber handgun valued at $150 was reported stolen from a 2006 Ford pickup in the 200 block of Kendra Drive at 8:41 a.m. Friday.

At 9:11 p.m. Friday, about $10 in change was reported stolen from a home in the 100 block of Walters Street.

On Saturday at 7:24 a.m., a 30-30 Winchester rifle valued $300, about $80 and a 7mm Savage rifle valued at $400 were reported stolen from a home in the 100 block of Falk Steel Road.

Two CDs valued at $30 were reported stolen from a 2007 Chevrolet in the 5000 block of U.S. 61 South at 1:15 p.m. Saturday.

About $3 in change was reported stolen from a home in the 400 block of Depot Street at 8:20 p.m. Saturday.

At 3:51 a.m. Sunday, a Sirius Satellite radio valued at $100 and a Dewalt 18-volt drill and a Dewalt sawzall, together valued at $350,  were reported stolen from a 2007 Ford pickup in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Express, 4330 S. Frontage Road.

Also reported at the hotel, a satellite radio valued $100 was reported missing from a 2006 Chevrolet pickup.

Lt. Bobby Stewart of the Vicksburg police said this morning he believes the burglaries are related.

Separately,  three auto burglaries were reported at 4:48 a.m. Sunday in the parking lot of the La Quinta Inn at 4216 Washington St.

A Pioneer CD player valued at $300 was reported missing from a 1997 Nissan pickup.

A Dual CD player valued at $150 was reported missing from a 2007 Ford F-150.

A radar detector valued at $100, a Compact laptop valued at $800, two Garmin GPS units valued at $600 and an Echo chain saw valued at $300 were reported missing from a 2008 Dodge pickup.

Pickup reported stolen at apartments

An auto theft was reported at 8:45 a.m. Sunday at The Crossings apartments, 2160 S. Frontage Road.

A 1998 Dodge pickup, Mississippi tag WA2 484 and valued at $8,000, was reported missing.

County man injured in wreck on Lee Road

A Warren County man was taken to River Regional Medical Center early Saturday after a one-vehicle wreck, said Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace.

Willie Neal, 62, 5208 Gibson Road, was headed north on Lee Road when his 1983 Ford pickup left the roadway near Vines Road and crashed into a ditch, Pace said. No condition report was available.
